Glorious Broadmarsh?
A windy coastal walk around Broadmarsh near Havant and Bedhampton. Rough seas crashing against the defences, aggressive swans, and a picturesque boat that caught my eye. Sometimes the best locations are the ones right on your doorstep.

Broadmarsh sits between Havant and Bedhampton, and honestly it’s a bit run down. But that doesn’t stop it being popular with dog walkers, and today I found out why. The coastal views are genuinely lovely, even if the area itself has seen better days.
The wind was relentless. Proper coastal wind that cuts right through you. The seas were rough and the whole place felt alive with energy. Spotted some swans too, though I didn’t manage to get them in frame. Probably for the best as they were being quite aggressive. There were fishermen lined up along the wall, braving the elements, and runners pushing through despite the conditions.

I spent a good chunk of time trying to capture the waves hitting the sea defences. It’s one of those shots where timing is everything. You wait, you watch the rhythm of the waves, and then you try to catch that perfect moment when the spray explodes upward. Got properly wet in the process, but that’s part of the fun.

Really pleased with how some of these turned out. The flares from the diffusion filter give them this dreamy quality, and there’s something about the swirls in the water that I find really appealing. This is exactly why I keep that filter on the lens.

And then there’s this boat. I need to find out more about it because it’s got such character. Something about it just draws the eye. Weathered, sitting there against the coastal backdrop, it’s the kind of subject you stumble across and immediately know you’ve found your hero shot for the day.

On the way back I found a tunnel running under the main road. Covered in graffiti, but the good kind. The sort that adds character rather than detracts from it.

There’s a woodland area just before the motorway that I walked through. Quiet and sheltered compared to the exposed coastline.

Found this gorgeous fallen tree that’s curved into a natural arch. It sits right between Havant and Bidbury, almost like a gateway between the two.

And finally, I couldn’t resist this sign in Bidbury church graveyard. “Slippery Surface” it warns. I always think it would be funnier if it said “Slippery Slope” given the location. Dark humour, but you have to find it where you can.
