Had the honour of spending my morning with the Salisbury Shooters today. A group of photographers who have built a community for creators, by creators.
I’ve been quietly following them for a while on the socials, taking inspiration from their fantastic work. When the opportunity came up to join them for a morning walk, I jumped at it.
They’re a group of incredibly talented photographers, who were more than happy to show me the ropes and the hot spots around Salisbury. They were incredibly knowledgeable and it really showed that they loved where they live. I’m writing this like a review, but I truly see these guys as friends now.
There’s something about shooting with other photographers that brings out different work. You spot things you’d normally walk past, and they point out angles you’d never have found on your own.
I’ll drop the socials of the photographers I met today - check out their work:

Shots Shot
Started the morning wandering through the city centre. Salisbury’s got a nice mix of old buildings and everyday life - good for street work.

The Market
Salisbury’s market has been running for over 800 years. It’s busy, chaotic, and full of characters - exactly what you want for candid shots.

Salisbury Cathedral
Can’t visit Salisbury without photographing the cathedral. Britain’s tallest spire at 123 metres - it dominates the skyline from pretty much everywhere in the city.

The group showed me a few angles I’d never have found on my own. That’s the benefit of shooting with locals.
Inside Salisbury Cathedral
The group convinced me to pay the entry fee. The scale of the place hits you as soon as you walk in - those vaulted ceilings are properly impressive.
Mark and John were full of facts about the place. Apparently the cathedral is slowly compressing under its own weight, and they have to keep the gravel around the base wet to stop it drying out and shifting. There’s also a small hatch in the floor where a plumbline drops down from the spire, right through the ceiling, so they can check if it’s still straight. The things you learn.

Mark also lent me his lens for a few shots inside - an actual proper lens, not a charity shop find. Autofocus and everything. Felt like cheating.
On the Street
Finished up with more street work around the city centre. By this point my feet were starting to complain, but the shots kept coming.

Thanks to the Salisbury Shooters for having me. If you’re in Wiltshire and fancy a shoot, look them up. I’ll definitely be back.
